Who We Are
Mission: To promote blood donation awareness and facilitate blood donation drives within universities and college campuses, aiming to address blood shortages and save lives through community engagement and education.
Founded at the University of Chicago in 2017, the University Blood Initiative officially received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 2021, and has since expanded to chapters at dozens of universities across the country–and we’re still growing. Our chapters partner with local blood centers to promote community engagement, education, and blood donation.
Our vision is to continuously engage a national network of young, diverse blood donor advocates to ensure the issue of blood donation is never forgotten.
What We Do
Our model, which harnesses the brilliance and abilities of the younger generations, is a solution to the current issues plaguing America’s blood supply: low donor rates, and disengaged youth. We offer a way for local blood centers to supplement their recruitment efforts and better engage with young donors with no additional effort.
