Who We Are

Mission: To provide services for the Probate Court reviewing guardianships and providing conservator and guardianship services.

The Grand Traverse County Probate and Family Court Volunteer Services division has been enhancing court operations through volunteerism since 1970. Established by Judge Kenneth Mackness, the program was designed to augment the efforts of court staff by involving community members in various capacities.

What We Do

The Volunteer Services division offers several programs:

  • Accounting Assistance for Conservators: Volunteers help conservators manage financial matters for individuals unable to do so themselves.
  • Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA): Volunteers advocate for children who are victims of abuse or neglect, ensuring their voices are heard in court proceedings.
  • Guardianship Review: Volunteers perform reviews of vulnerable adults and children under guardianship to ensure their well-being.
  • Learning Partners: Volunteers assist juveniles in detention facilities with educational support and mentorship.
  • New Vision Academy: Volunteers provide support to youth in the New Vision Academy program, focusing on rehabilitation and education.
  • Transporters: Volunteers transport juveniles to and from detention facilities, ensuring they attend necessary appointments and hearings.
  • Volunteer Guardians and Conservators: Volunteers manage the personal and financial affairs of individuals without available family support.
