Who We Are
Mission: To empower young people through cycling, promoting healthy lifestyles, confidence, and community engagement.
Norte Youth Cycling is a nonprofit organization based in Traverse City, Michigan, dedicated to promoting cycling among youth and advocating for active transportation. Founded in 2011 by a group of cycling enthusiasts and community leaders, the organization was created to inspire and empower young people to embrace cycling as a healthy, fun, and sustainable activity.
The organization was born out of the belief that cycling could be a transformative experience for kids, helping them develop important life skills such as confidence, teamwork, and independence. Norte’s founders recognized the growing need for youth-focused programs that promote active lifestyles while also emphasizing environmental responsibility and community involvement.
Over the years, Norte has grown significantly, expanding its programs and services to reach children and families in the Traverse City area and beyond. The organization offers a range of cycling programs, including youth bike clubs, bike safety education, and cycling events. Norte also provides opportunities for kids to learn bike repair skills, participate in group rides, and get involved in leadership opportunities within the cycling community.
What We Do
In addition to its youth programs, Norte advocates for better infrastructure and policies that promote cycling and walking in local communities, striving to create safer and more bike-friendly environments for everyone. The organization works closely with schools, local governments, and other community groups to improve access to cycling and ensure that young people have the resources and support they need to enjoy biking.
Today, Norte Youth Cycling continues to inspire and engage young people through its cycling programs, aiming to foster a love for cycling, promote healthier lifestyles, and build stronger, more connected communities. Through its efforts, Norte has become a key player in promoting cycling as a means of transportation, recreation, and personal development for youth.
