Who We Are
Mission: To provide dynamic resources and innovative services to stimulate intellectual curiosity, facilitate lifelong learning, promote literacy, and nurture personal enrichment.
The Traverse Area District Library (TADL) is a network of six libraries, serving the City of Traverse City and Grand Traverse County Michigan. It was founded to provide essential library services to residents of the region and foster a love for reading and lifelong learning within the community. TADL traces its roots back to the founding of the Ladies’ Library Association in 1869, and celebrated 155 years of service in 2024.
What We Do
The library offers a wide range of resources, including books, streaming/digital media, music, movies, educational programs, and community events. Events include health/wellness, art/cultural, STEM, children’s storytimes, and more. As a community hub, TADL libraries provide access to technology (computers, free WIFI, 3D printing) and educational resources to bridge the digital divide.
TADL has played a key role in fostering a culture of learning and community engagement in the Traverse City region, and it continues to expand its reach through partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community groups. The library serves as a hub for learning, creativity, and connection, offering services that support the personal and intellectual growth of the community.
