Who We Are
Mission: To empower women and girls through service and advocacy, striving to achieve gender equality and improve the lives of women in the community and around the world.
Zonta is a word derived from the Lakhota (Teton Dakota) language of the Native American Sioux people meaning honest and trustworthy, an integral component of the club principles. The first Zonta club was formed in 1919 in Buffalo, NY to create a strong network of women, working in executive positions, who would collaborate to advance the status of women worldwide.
What We Do
Zonta Club of Traverse City was chartered in 1956. Over the years, Zonta has participated in many area service projects. Our club is vibrant and boasts over 50 members. The club’s main fundraiser is the Festival of Trees in November. The funds raised by our members are reinvested in our region through grants and scholarships.
